Twenty years ago on a clear September morning, terrorists blackened the sky by turning planes into missiles, collapsing the Twin Towers, scarring the Pentagon, and harming thousands. Many others could have suffered had it not been for a courageous few in the skies over Pennsylvania. The memory of that fateful day appears in different ways for different people… grief, pain, anger, resolve.

From 8:46 that morning to now, merely days past the closure of our time in Afghanistan, our enduring reflection not only honors all who sacrificed that day, but it also respects the many who stood up to defend both America and freedom worldwide since. Their legacy… OUR legacy… is not only of sacrifice, but of drawing together, rebuilding, and marching forward. Never forget that extremists may have mangled steel and crushed concrete, but they couldn’t break the foundation of who we are as people; imperfect, yet intently bound by the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Our country reflects its people. As we strive to become a more perfect union, you and I remain works in progress. Serving others, mentoring, and leading our communities is representative of what our team at MilitaryMentors not only believes in, but lives. On a day of contemplation like today, consider sparking a conversation that may start a transformation tomorrow and beyond.
